Classes We Offer

Here at SBDS Dance & Cheer we offer a range of levels of training in all styles of dance. We cater for the social dancer through to the serious competitor, from Toddler to Granny!
We offer examinations in Classical Ballet, Tap and AcroDance. We also offer try-out based  Elite competition squads. Please keep an eye on our Latest News Tab and/or Facebook for upcoming Try Out Dates
Below is a brief description of each genre offered here at SBDS Dance & Cheer
Our Classical Ballet classes follow the RAD Syllabus ( Examinations are available for Classical Ballet from the age of 5, these are not compulsory.
We encourage all students to learn Classical Ballet as it is the foundation that develops the correct technique for all styles of dance. It is excellent for improving posture, flexibility, strength and poise.

Our Tap classes follow the GWT Syllabus (
Examinations are available for Tap, these are not compulsory.
Tap is a fun style of dance where the student makes rhythm and sound patterns from metal tap plates fitted to the bottom of their dance shoes. Tap is excellent for improving fitness, balance and rhythm.

If you are unsure which style of dance to start with, jazz is recommended as it is fun and energetic. It is performed to upbeat music and involves learning all the basics including kicks, leaps and turns.
A Classical Ballet class is recommended, (but not compulsory) to excel in jazz as the Classical training enables the jazz work to have correct grace and balance.

Contemporary/Lyrical dance has derived from Classical ballet and Jazz dance styles. Contemporary dance tends to utilize both the strong and controlled legwork of ballet and modern Jazz dance’s stress on the torso; it also employs contact-release, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation characteristic unlike the strict disciplined nature of traditional Classical Ballet. This style of dance enables freedom of movement allowing their bodies to freely express their innermost feelings.
For students to participate in these classes they must do at least one ballet class as ballet is the foundation for contemporary.

Our AcroDance classes follow the Acrobatic Arts syllabus.
Acro dance is a style of dance that combines dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. It is defined by its athletic character, its unique choreography, which seamlessly blends dance and acrobatics, and its use of acrobatics in a dance context.
Learn how to do cartwheels, handstands, forward & backward rolls, while building your strength & stretching skills.


Contortion is a performance art in which performers showcase their skills of extreme physical flexibility.


Cheer is a recreational or competition team that involves a routine consisting of stunting, pyramids, tumbling and a dance break. Athletes train under the IASF (International All Star Federation) guidelines.


Tumble is a combination of standing and running power tumble skills such as walkovers, handsprings, tucks, layouts and twisting skills It also requires and develops a lot of strength.


Kicks and Turns is a specialised class that focuses on further developing and fine tuning the technique required for these individual skills.


Strength is a muscle building and conditioning class focusing on high repetitions and light weight. It also has a strong focus on cardio training.


Stretch works on developing increased flexibility and range of motion. You will learn how to safely stretch your legs, hips, shoulders and back whilst building muscle and and the balance needed to use your flexibility.
